Rare Chemical Released into Atmosphere from Plymouth Nuclear Power Station

PLYMOUTH-- Pilgrim Nuclear Power plant, located in Plymouth, MA, just released a statement, warning the general public of a potentially fatal chemical released into the air from the building. According to the statement, it is unknown when the chemical began leaking from the power plant, but workers are taking appropriate measures to resolve the problem before anyone gets hurt.

It was only realized that this chemical was in the atmosphere last Monday morning, when an employee working in the building noticed welts developing on his hands, and a peculiar smell. All employees were evacuated immediately, and the building was tested for harmful chemicals. The chemical that was discovered is known as sulfur dioxide, and can be potentially lethal if it comes in direct contact with the skin for long periods of time.

The chemical was supposedly released into the atmosphere when a crack developed in the building wall, and nobody noticed. The power plant was not up-to-date with necessary monthly inspections, therefore leading to a revoke of its license issued by the U.S. government.

The power plant advises anybody living within 25 miles of the plant, as seen in the map above, should take precautions and try to limit time outside as much as possible until further advised. The chemical will not cause visible damage unless met with direct contact to the skin. Manager Robert Prentice stated, "Although the chemical is in the atmosphere, we are doing all we can to eliminate the danger of it." The United States government has decided to temporarily close the Plymouth Power Plant due to the effects of this chemical. Petitions to close the plant for good have been filed by Plymouth residents.

As seen in the images above, these harmful chemicals could have been in the atmosphere for as long as two years. The photos above were sent in by residents of Plymouth, showing the deformities seen in plants and even animals. If you have any images showing the effects of this harmful chemical, please send them in to miasnews@gmail.com
